The Challenge
The Independent Carrier Safety Association (ICSA)—an organization committed to promoting safety and compliance within the transportation industry—approached I-ology to expand its existing digital platform, safecarriers.org.
While I-ology had previously developed ICSA’s membership e-commerce site, the association’s evolving business model now required the ability to sell and ship in-cab cameras and related accessories directly through the platform. These cameras are a critical component of ICSA’s member safety policy, designed to enhance accountability and reduce risk on the road.
However, the existing system had limitations:
Members could only order cameras from a single vendor (Solera).
There was no mechanism to purchase replacement accessories or view product updates.
The membership sign-up process did not allow for the seamless inclusion of camera purchases.
Administrators lacked tools to manage and update products efficiently within the platform.
ICSA needed a modern, flexible e-commerce solution that would enhance member convenience and support multiple product vendors—all while maintaining a friction-free user experience.
The Approach
I-ology began by conducting a comprehensive review of the current e-commerce infrastructure to identify opportunities for enhancement and ensure alignment with ICSA’s strategic goals. Through collaboration with ICSA leadership, I-ology outlined a phased approach that would both expand functionality and future-proof the platform for continued growth.
Discovery and Planning
Performed a full technical and UX analysis of safecarriers.org to pinpoint inefficiencies in the existing product ordering workflow.
Met with ICSA stakeholders to clarify business goals and define product management needs, emphasizing the importance of in-cab cameras to ICSA’s safety standards.
Established clear objectives for expanding the site’s e-commerce capabilities, integrating new vendor options, and maintaining a frictionless user journey.
Solution Design and Development
E-commerce Expansion: Implemented a new e-commerce framework within Umbraco that enabled members to purchase cameras and accessories directly from the platform.
Product Management Module: Developed a backend tool empowering authorized ICSA team members to create, edit, remove, and toggle product visibility—ensuring that product listings remained accurate and up to date.
Seamless Membership Integration: Redesigned the membership sign-up process to include camera purchases, enabling new members to select and buy cameras as part of their onboarding experience.
Vendor Flexibility: Built a scalable product management structure to accommodate multiple vendors, making it easy for ICSA to expand its offerings over time.
