New blood flows into Arizona Technology Council board
The Arizona Technology Council added four executive officers to its board as well as a slate of new directors.
The lineup includes Steve Philips, Avnet Inc.'s chief information officer, as board chairman. Also approved as executive officers are Dr. Michael Berens, director of the cancer and cell biology division at the Translational Genomics Research Institute, as chairman emeritus; Ray Harris, a director with Fennemore Craig PC, as secretary; Kevin McHolland, a certified public accountant with Ernst & Young LLP, as treasurer.
Philips said the council will continue its programs and services geared toward the tech community.
"The Arizona Technology Council has been the principal point of connection for technology companies," he said. "As the new chairman, I will oversee an agenda that continues to build valuable programs and services for all members and supports technology innovation and growth."
Other new executive officers include Christopher Smith, manager of government and regulatory affairs for Cox Communications Inc.; Dan Mazzola, engagement architect from Sun Microsystems Inc. Steven Zylstra, ATC's president and CEO, also will serve as an executive officer, and there are two remaining seats that will be filled at a later date.
Appointed to three-year board terms were David Beauchamp, a partner at Bryan Cave LLP; Thomas Campbell, a partner with Lewis and Roca LLP; Kathleen A. Collins, Mesa functional chief engineer for Boeing Co.; John Cummerford, shareholder with Greenburg Traurig LLP; Joe Drazek, partner with Quarles and Brady LLP; MaryAnn Guerra, president of TGen Accelerators LLC and chief business officer of TGen; Carl Lytikainen, senior vice president for technical services for Lumension Security Inc.; Jane Poynter, president of Paragon Space Development Corp.; R.F. "Rick" Shangraw, vice president and research and economic affairs for Arizona State University; and Judith K. Weiss, partner at Perkins Coie Brown & Bain LLP.
Several board members are leaving because of term limits. They include Trish Bear, president and CEO of I-ology Inc.; Scott DeWald, partner at Lewis and Roca; Brian Hageman, founder of Deluge Inc.; Rick Hlavka, senior vice president for Lumension; John Kelly, principal of Tri Advocates LLC; Mark Kittredge, attorney with Perkins Coie Brown & Bain; Christopher Lause, counsel with Bryan Cave; Julia Rose, assistant vice president for economic affairs for the office of the vice president for research and economic affairs at Arizona State University; and Susan Stoll, vice president at AT&T Inc.
The board also will have a handful of people serving as directors emeritus with no term limit, including some whose terms had expired. They include Berens; Joanne Carthey Bradley, chief operating officer for Namescape Corp.; Charles Jirauch, partner with Quarles and Brady; Quinn Williams, shareholder with Greenburg Traurig; and Mark Schonau, chief financial officer with Insysrx.
